MeterNest: Meter Tracker Privacy Policy
MeterNest: Meter Tracker is an offline-first Android app for storing utility meter readings. The app helps store properties, meters, readings, bills, local reminders, and meter photos used for OCR review and text recognition.
Developer and privacy contact
The developer responsible for MeterNest: Meter Tracker is Rootkiv.
For privacy questions or data requests, contact Rootkiv at rootkiv.dev@gmail.com.
No account and no ads
The app does not require a user account. MeterNest does not show ads and does not include Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, advertising SDKs, or developer-operated crash reporting services.
Data you enter
The app lets you enter and store on your device:
- property names and notes;
- meter names, units, prices, and notes;
- meter readings and billing settlement records;
- local reminder settings;
- meter photos selected or captured for OCR.
Meter readings, meter photos, properties, bills, reminders, and notes are stored locally on your device. MeterNest does not provide a cloud account, cloud sync, or developer-operated server upload for this app data.
Camera, photos, and OCR
The camera is used to take meter photos. The app can also use a gallery picker so you can review an image and get a suggested reading.
OCR uses the bundled Google ML Kit Text Recognition SDK, with the OCR model included in the app. The OCR input image and the recognized text output are processed on the device. You can review and correct the recognized value before saving a normal reading.
MeterNest does not send your meter photos, recognized text, readings, properties, or bills to a developer-operated server. Android system backup is described separately below.
Google ML Kit diagnostics
Google states that ML Kit APIs may contact Google servers to receive fixes, updated models, or hardware accelerator compatibility information, and may send metrics about the performance and use of ML Kit APIs in the app.
This diagnostic and usage data may include device and application information, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics, API configuration, feature input and output sizes, feature version, event type, and error codes. Google states that ML Kit data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and is not transferred by ML Kit to third parties.
Local reminders and notifications
If you enable reminders, MeterNest schedules local notifications on your device. Reminder data is stored locally. Notification permission is used only so the app can show local reminder notifications.
Pro purchase
The Pro purchase is handled by Google Play Billing. Payments are processed by Google Play. MeterNest may receive purchase status information in order to unlock Pro features. Rootkiv does not process your payment card data.
Android backup
MeterNest does not provide its own cloud sync. Because Android system backup is enabled, locally stored MeterNest data may be included in Android cloud backup or device transfer if those features are enabled in your Android or Google account settings.
Android backup and restore are controlled by Android and Google account settings, not by Rootkiv.
Data retention and deletion
Local app data is retained on your device until you delete it in the app, uninstall the app, or Android removes the app data. You can delete locally saved properties, meters, readings, bills, reminders, and meter photos inside the app. Uninstalling the app also removes its local app data from that device.
If Android restores MeterNest data from a system backup, you can delete the restored data in the app or change backup settings in Android or your Google account.
Support email
If you contact Rootkiv by email, Rootkiv processes your email address and message content to read, respond to, and keep a record of your support or privacy request. Support emails are retained for as long as needed to handle the request and maintain reasonable support records. Please do not send unnecessary sensitive information.
