No account, ads, analytics, or Rootkiv cloud service

MeterNest does not require or provide user accounts. Rootkiv does not operate a backend or cloud synchronization service for the app, and MeterNest does not upload app data to a Rootkiv-operated server.

The production app does not have the Android INTERNET permission. It contains no advertising, analytics, crash reporting, Firebase, or tracking service.

MeterNest has no active in-app purchases, Google Play Billing, subscriptions, or trials.

Android system services, providers selected by the user, external browsers, the website host, and email providers may process data only in the separate circumstances described below.

Data stored in the app

MeterNest uses a local SQLite database, SharedPreferences, and files in Android app-private storage. Depending on how the user uses the app, these stores may contain:

• property names, types, and notes;
• meter names, types, units, and notes;
• manually entered reading values, dates, and notes;
• optional reading photos;
• bills, settlements, and cost information, including amounts, unit prices, and fixed charges recorded in bills;
• reminder settings and local records of reminder occurrences;
• app preferences and state, such as language, units, theme, and onboarding state;

MeterNest uses these data to provide the features requested by the user, such as organizing meters, calculating and displaying usage and costs, attaching photos, scheduling reminders, and importing or exporting an archive. It does not send these data to Rootkiv.

Local storage, Android Backup, and device transfer

MeterNest enables Android Backup and device transfer at the app level. Whether either system feature runs depends on Android and the user's device or account settings.

MeterNest stores app data locally in Android app-private storage and does not upload it to a Rootkiv-operated server. If Android Backup or device transfer is enabled, Android may copy the app database, preferences, and app files, including reading photos, to the user's Google account or another device. These system-managed copies are controlled by Android and the user's device or account settings, not by Rootkiv.

What Android copies or restores depends on the Android version, device, account, system limits, and user settings. Rootkiv does not operate, control, receive, or have access to Android backups and cannot guarantee that Android will copy or restore every item.

Reading photos and camera access

Only after the user chooses the relevant action, MeterNest opens the system photo picker or camera so the user can select or take a photo. The selected image is stored in app-private storage as an ordinary attachment to a manually entered reading.

MeterNest does not use OCR, text recognition, or any other automatic analysis of reading photos. The user enters each reading value manually. MeterNest does not upload reading photos to Rootkiv.

After a camera photo is loaded, MeterNest deletes the temporary camera input file; the saved reading photo remains as an app attachment. When the user selects an existing image from the gallery, the original gallery file remains outside MeterNest and is not changed or deleted by MeterNest, including by Delete local data.

Local notifications

Reading reminders use local Android notifications. A notification may include a user-provided meter name and may be visible outside the app, including on the lock screen, depending on the user's Android notification settings.

MeterNest stores reminder settings and reminder history locally and may rebuild the schedule after a device restart or app update. Android controls notification scheduling, delivery, and visibility, so exact or guaranteed delivery is not promised. MeterNest does not send reminder data to Rootkiv.

Data archive export and import

Data archive export is initiated by the user. The exported ZIP archive may contain properties, meters, readings, bills, reminders, preferences, and reading photos. MeterNest does not encrypt or password-protect the ZIP archive. After export, the user and the selected storage provider control its location, access, retention, and deletion.

Import is also initiated by the user. The user selects a compatible MeterNest data archive and must confirm the operation. After confirmation, import replaces the data covered by the archive with the archive contents.

MeterNest handles export and import locally and does not send the archive to Rootkiv. The system file picker and any file or cloud provider selected by the user may handle a selected or exported archive under that provider's own terms and privacy policy.

Local security

On-device data is stored in Android app-private storage and protected by Android platform security. MeterNest does not add a separate encryption layer to its local SQLite database. Exported ZIP archives are not encrypted by MeterNest.

Protection applied to an Android backup or device transfer depends on the Android version, device capabilities, account, and user settings. The user should protect exported archives and any device or account that holds app data.

Data retention and deletion

MeterNest retains local app data until the user deletes individual records, uses Delete local data, clears the app's storage in Android, uninstalls the app, or Android otherwise removes the data.

Delete local data removes the app database, saved reading photo attachments, preferences, theme and onboarding state, and cancels scheduled reminders for the current installation.

Delete local data does not delete exported ZIP archives, original gallery files, Android backups, or copies previously made by the user or another selected service. Android may later restore data from an existing system backup.

Uninstalling MeterNest removes data from the current installation, but does not guarantee deletion of Android backups, exported archives, original gallery files, or other user-controlled copies. MeterNest has no Rootkiv-side user account or server copy to delete.

External systems and this policy website

MeterNest does not transmit app data to Rootkiv. Separately, Android may handle system-managed backup or device transfer copies, and a file or cloud provider selected by the user may handle a data archive after a user-initiated export or during import.

The system camera, photo picker, and file picker participate only when the user invokes the related feature. Their handling is governed by Android and, where applicable, by the provider selected by the user.

This Privacy Policy website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. If the user opens it in an external browser, the browser connects to Cloudflare and ordinary web-request technical data, such as the IP address, request time, browser or device information, and requested URL, may be processed to deliver and secure the page. This browser activity is separate from MeterNest app data and is not an upload of the user's MeterNest database, preferences, archives, or reading photos.

Support and privacy email

When you email Rootkiv, Rootkiv receives your address, message, and any attachments. Rootkiv uses them to reply, handle your request, and keep the related correspondence.

Email is separate from the app's local data handling. The sender's and Rootkiv's email providers process the message for delivery and storage. Do not send sensitive data, reading photos, or data archives unless they are needed to resolve the issue.

Changes to this policy

This policy may change when MeterNest or its data handling changes. The update date is shown at the top.
